iPhone 3.0--Icon limit

Now that Apple has announced the availability of the iPhone 3.0 system
next week, I guess we can ask questions about its capabilities. I have
a pretty basic one that I haven't seen covered in any announcements or
commentary:

Under the iPhone 2.x operating system you are limited to 9 screen of
icons for applications and saved webpages. Including the ribbon at the
bottom, that's 148 icons. Does the 3.0 system provide some method to
expand circumvent this limit (or at least increase the number of
storage screens?). If not, the pace of application sales and downloads
may decrease as users will need to become selective.

I know that the 3.0 System includes search capabilities, but are they
any improved organizational capabilities from dragging icons around?

I haven't seen this issue discussed anywhere

As far as I know, there are still a total of 9 pages (plus one page
for Spotlight). That said, for the vast majority of users, that is
more than they will ever use. I download a lot of apps, and I've
never hit the limit, but then I don't keep all the apps I download on
the iTouch. On the other hand, I've heard one unconfirmed report that
there are now 11 pages (180 apps) plus a page for spotlight. We shall
see.

People where hoping for some sort of category sort, but as far as I
know that's not in the 3.0 software.

Here's one link I found on google you might find interesting,
especially the item #5.

This is true; you can see it in the WWDC keynote video.

You could count the dots? I just saw 'lots'<1>. Maybe I need more
caffine, or new glasses.

<1> More than 5 :)

Good point; I didn't check the video to see if the dots were visible ;-)
But sitting in the audience, you could indeed count them. (If you know a
developer who has the GM of 3.0 installed, you could probably catch an
illicit glimpse of the phone to verify...)
