Favorite Screen Saver? Doug McLean (apparently) - 03:08am Sep 30, 2008 PSTvia emailHi Everyone,
I'm trying to compile and write up a list of interesting or favored
screensavers. Ideally I'm looking for things that are a little
unusual- though I'd be interested to see whatever it is you're using
or enjoying. Please send me any suggestions you may have!
Thanks!
Doug

Re: Favorite Screen Saver?
My faves are Luna Saver, with an APOD photo as the backdrop from StimpSoft and second is Fracture, from StickSoftware < http://www.sticksoftware.com/> Usually, it is Luna Saver though - it shows the moon in its current phase with extra info floating around in the window over a photo of your choice.

Re: Favorite Screen Saver?
I prefer to use my own pictures, changing them from time to time.
However, I cannot get OS X 10.5 to change the Desktop. I open
desktop, select an image in a folder in iPhoto, and NADA!! It just
won't work.
And, how do I get rid of the Apple start-up splash. It's had its run
on my screen, and now its Time for Change!!

Re: Favorite Screen Saver?
If the goal is to require password to resume, the little lock icon
menu bar thing provided by Keychain Access (per a checkbox) will do
that. First command in the menu (followed by lock all keychains and
some others). The screensaver locking then becomes a backup.

XScreenSaver has been ported from unix to linux and a few years ago to OSX.

Re: Favorite Screen Saver?
I rarely use a screensaver, preferring to let the screen go black (or
switch off) when it's not in use. I recently made one exception for
Defcon. It's a simple wireframe globe, but the link with Wargames made
it irresistible to me.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Underware yet (the irreverent
counterpart to After Dark).

Re: Favorite Screen Saver?
A black screen. Just a grouch, I guess. :-P But I do have a 'distributed computing' app running in the background (24/7/365) that does have a screen saver version. Don't use it since I want all those cpu cycles doing the work on the research processes. If you ever get tired of watching those screens, we can always use some more Mac cpu's in the Folding Home battles! Seems we've slipped to #7!!!

Unfortunatly, it can't be installed on OS X 10.5.5! I hope we will get
an update soon!
