MobileMea Culpa: Apple Apologizes, Extends, Revises; More on Tiger

Being one of those who asked about Tiger, I appreciate your rapid update and information. Perhaps you also read NYTimes' Pogue stories, todays being on MobileMe and synch and clouds. As you also often write on security issues, I wonder if you would care to plunge into the benefits (or risks) of cloud-based databases, particularly for those who travel overseas and may be lulled into thinking that since the data are "safe back home (in a cloud)" that they can operate in more privacy than would otherwise be the case. I suspect that could be true, but only if communications protocols are set for higher than normal standards, like secure send and receive when asking for or getting mail, etc. This is way above my level of knowledge, let alone competency — but clearly within range of my anxieties, particularly as to exposing the whole roster of contacts, documents, and all other manner of things in the cloudy vapors. Thanks. Lindsley

It should show up on your System Prefs -> MobileMe (or .mac) in the
sign in area (first tab). There it lists the number of days until you
have to renew. That number should grow by 30 when they extend it.

Details are here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2408

Basically the extension is automatic if:

- you were a .mac member with an active account as of 7/9/2008
- you were a new mobileme member with an account created before
7/15/2008 7pm PDT
- if you are in your 30 day free trial, then the trial period will be
extended by 30 days
