Services Sub-Menus Greyed on in 10.4.8?

Anyone out there have problems with services in the new version?

Services menu item is there, even the sub-menus, but, when you go to
actually run commands, say, to encrypt something in Eudora with PGP :-),
they're greyed out.

Google has this mentioned a couple of places, but nobody knows why, and the
people here are considerably more cluefull, so I thought I'd ping it here.

Details: If you highlight text, where, applicable, things are still greyed
out, so that "feature", which emerged in 10.4.7, is not what's happening
here.

Does

Cheers,

Services are dimmed in apps that don't support them. Do you have the
problem in the Finder? Is PGP supposed to work that way with Eudora?

Yes, in my experience PGP (I'm still uisng version 8.1) and Eudora (any
non-Classic version) should communicate just fine through the Services menu.
(I haven't yet gone up to 10.4.8 from 10.4.7 myself though.)

The Services menu in general though seems to be mildly sensitive to some form
of corruption. Possibly that's what the OP ran into. I'm not sure exactly
what file/folder to trash though. There doesn't seem to be a Services cache.
Maybe someone who knows more about Services has a suggestion...

Yes.

So much for the low-hanging fruit.

Next?

MIght the problem in fact be your Eudora 6.2.4 settings? 6.2.4 added an
x-eduora-setting to en/disable the Services menu:
<http://www.eudora.com/download/eudora/mac/6.2.4/ReleaseNotes.txt> says "
Added <x-eudora-setting:197> to turn off the Services menu in Eudora".

(If that's it, don't thank me. I'm just relaying a Usenet message,
Message-ID: <1hnic79.1eertej584ddyN%newshereth.de> :))

Thank you. Anyway. :-)

Changed it from 'n' to 'y', restarted Eudora, and everything's back to normal.

I must have been imagining things when I said that the same thing was wrong
in other applications, like the Finder.

Everything works, now, everywhere.
