Reinstalling Classic

Hello group, I hope someone can help.

I loaded 10.4.1 on my Mac G4 when it became available. The updates
have come from Apple since then so I am now at 10.4.7. My start up
disk is 10.4.1 from the source, Apple.

Some how I have managed to corrupt the System involvement of the
Classic Start up and now it won't load the Classic mode at startup or
any other time. It is interfering with my printer - forces me to turn
it off then back on each time I restart the computer. As long as I
don't shut down printing is fine. ( it is an HP 1100 Laser Printer) I
don't use any Classic applications any more, but still the start up
screen stops at "Classic Starting Up" and never finishes. I just
ignore it or quit the start up.

My startup disc won't let me startup with it, too many steps down the
line. It wants to re-install.

Is there anything I can do to get around this or install the Classic
Mode again without a complete reinstall of the OS and then the
download upgrades from Apple?

Charles

Oh, definitely. Either you have a Mac OS 9 system installer disk, or your
computer came with a Software Restore disk that allows you to install a
clean Classic system folder. Just rename the old Classic system folder.

But if you don't use any Classic apps, why is Classic trying to start up at
all? Just disable automatic startup of Classic (in the Classic system pref
pane) and you're good to go. m.

Re: Reinstalling Classic

Thanks guys!

Just taking the ClassicPref out has solved my printing problem.
The HP LJ 1200 USB, now starts without a problem.

Really glad I signed in to THIS group!

Thanks
