Eudora 6.1 Comments

I turned Eudora's Google search bar off within minutes; 1) I don't think to search
from Eudora, flipping to Safari (cmd-tab) and tabbing to the search field there is second nature, and 2) it makes the toolbar much wider - takes up too much screen space.

Re: Eudora 6.1 Comments

Two things that is fixed in 6.1:
1. Search with high ascii like едц is finally
working. Really nice for us Europens among others.
2. Eudora no longer monopolise the CPU while checking for new mail.

The integration with Apples Address Book is
simple but works well. Junk statistics is nice. I
turned off Eudora's Google search bar as fast as I
found out how.

Two major things that Eudora is still lacking are
a good SSL implementation and integrated support
for PGP/GnuPG and S/MIME.

heh... I didn't even know it was there, as I have *never* used the
"toolbar" in Eudora....or any other app for that matter, now that
I think of it.

I recently figured out why Eudora has been so slow for me since it went
OS X-native. It turns out that while Eudora is on-line, waiting to check
mail every few minutes, it's dog slow. When I switch over to it from
another application when it's been hidden, it takes a very long time to
draw all the windows and the toolbar; menus take 3-5 seconds to pull
down when I click on them; messages take a couple of seconds to delete
when I pound the delete key; etc. Almost all of these speed problems
disappear when I take Eudora off-line - it then feels nearly as fast as
the Eudora of yore. Unfortunately, having had Eudora set to check my
e-mail every five minutes for the last decade or so, I've gotten rather
used to the behavior and find using off-line mode to be a pain.

If any 6.1 users out there have observed similar behavior with earlier
versions, have you noticed any improvement with the newer version? My
subscription has expired, and I just can't bring myself to spend $40 to
have Eudora count my spam messages (which I can more accurately do on my
own, anyway, by just looking at the Spam mailboxes where all my junk
mail ultimately ends up). If 6.1 offered some features of greater
meaning, such as WebCore integration or an improved filters window, I
would bite, but as it is, there's really nothing in it that's compelling
- unless it's faster.

Another problem I've had with Eudora is that it virtually locks up when
it's trying to contact a mail server that it can't reach for whatever
reason. OS X lets me switch to something else without a problem, but
Eudora itself is unresponsive until it eventually times out and gives
up. Has this been resolved in 6.1?

Regards,
Bob

Re: Eudora 6.1 Comments

I've been having a variety of more or less minor problems with Eudora 6 and 6.1. These include windows extending below the bottom of my screen - not responding to changes in settings I make to try to prevent it; frequent spinning beach ball hangs, even though I have Eudora set not to automatically check for mail, and lousy tech support although my paid status supposedly entitles me to some human response. I have used Eudora for many years and don't find any other mail program more appealing; still, the tech support issue in particular burns my wick. On the positive side, the spam filter works quite well, which is why I was willing to pay for it in the first place. Whether version 6.1 is worth the upgrade fee remains an open question. Certainly the search field on the toolbar doesn't do it. With Google in Safari and Sherlock in the Dock, doing a web search from my e-mail program seems superfluous. I added a search button to my Eudora toolbar a long time ago to enable me to quickly search my mailboxes. And though many people complain about Eudora's interface being old fashioned, the customization capability of the toolbar is among my favorite Eudora features. So I remain optimistic they will get the kinks worked out. The unreliable tech support, however, is another matter and not a hopeful sign.

Re: Eudora 6.1 Comments

I wanted to use Eudora 6.1's extended statistics to track the received and the junked messages. But, it seems they have gotten the mathematics wrong?

Received Email yesterday: 334 Junk E-Mail yesterday: 167 (27

Received Email last week: 2016 Junk E-Mail last week: 1308 (55

The percentage calculation is wrong. A quick googling did not deliver results, so has anyone ever went into the deep details of that calculations?

And I thought number crunching is the thing computers are built for...

Re: Eudora 6.1 Comments

I'm also experiencing problems with the Statistics functions since upgrading to E6.1 (sponsored). The Received count seems to be accurate -- at least consistent with previous versions. However, the following are definitely inaccurate:

Messages read Attachments received Forwarded messages Replied to messages Redirected messages Graph for forward/reply/redirect Attachments sent Usage activities
