Where does iWeb save its files?

I've got 2 Macs with iWeb-created web sites on them. I'd like to get
both of the web sites onto one of the Macs so I can repurpose the other.
I'm looking in my home directory in Library and in Documents and see
nothing which looks like it belongs to iWeb.

Anyone know what files I need to move to combine the 2 web sites/iWeb?

Re: Where does iWeb save its files?

Wendy

The file is situated here USER/LIBRARY/APPLICATION SUPPORT/IWEB the
file is normally called domain.site or sites

You need to copy this to your other mac in the above location.

If you want to use iWeb on both machines you have to copy the
domain.site files between them.. Bit of a pain really. It would be
great if iWeb sync'd with your .mac account. Maybe in updates..

There is one way round it.. You can use a USB flash device to
transfer the file between the 2 machines. Just place an alias in the
USER/LIBRARY/APPLICATION SUPPORT/IWEB folder which points to your
flash drive. Then all you need to do is carry the flash drive and
start iWeb once it's connected..

Hope this helps.

~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites is the file (well,
it's a bundle) you want.

That's not going to work the way you think it's going to work.

Short answer: it's not possible.

Long answer: iWeb stores it's data in a file bundle that contains
original copies of all graphics and an XML file (index.xml.gz)
describing your entire site's layout. When you 'publish' a site you
are actually generating the HTML based on the images and media and
XML you've defined.

Combining two file bundles is not feasible (unless ther eis an
undiscovered utility out there)

Switching from one to the other is doable, it just means moving one
to say Domain.sites.bak1 and moving them back and forth depending on
which you want to work on.

Your questions been answered, but when I get stuck looking for an
application's data/preference files, I make a change in the
application, make sure the data's saved, then run a find in either
the Finder or terminal and look for recently modified files.

Cheers

Re: Where does iWeb save its files?

Just new here. I have moved my iWeb domain package to several computers, they all work as expected except one. iWeb starts up, I eventually get a window with the correct pages listed on the left, After waiting a while more, I can click on then and the scroll bar on the right of the page changes with each page I click on, but I never see the contents of my pages. I have tried with different users on the computer and same deal.

I have reinstalled the OS, iLife, iWeb each separately and get the same results no matter what I do.

Can any one help? iWeb 1.1.2

Re: Where does iWeb save its files?

Would you believe we are having the same problem here with a project by one of our schools?  We are in the process of trying to figure out why some local teacher pages are working just fine, but the project pages are not.  I can see the content on the home page and the links at the top take me to a new page, but the content on the subsequent new pages is not there.  This sounds exactly like the problem you are having.  I also tried looking at both my eMac and my Dell with different browsers, all with the same result.

If anyone sends you ideas or fixes, please let me know, too!

Thanks!
Melissa
