How to reset printing under 10.4.5? Gernot (apparently) - 06:01am Mar 28, 2006 PSTvia emailHello,
my mother uses the small Canon BJC85 in combination with her Mac mini.
But after she changed the colour printing head against the black only
printing head, she can't print any more with the standard driver (GIMP
works, but the quality is bad).
Each time she tries to
print, printing is stopped without further explanation. After
searching for a while, I found in an error.log at /var/log, that the
driver posts an error message there stating that the print head
doesn't fit to the setup. But I don't know how to change the setup
(and anyhow, this is a Mac! It should change the setup by himself?!
It's very intimitating, that such a simple thing as printing just
doesn't work any more! The Win-box of my father currently works
without a hitch.). I posted the question at the canon support page a
week ago, but their answer was no help. Then I posted the question
under discussion.apple.com, but no answer yet.
Any ideas from you who to clearify this? Resetting the printing system
as described in Apple's other forums doesn't help.
Thanks in advance,
Gernot

The best way to reset a printer is to delete the printer in Print
Utility and then reinstall it.

I would try Printer Setup Repair from Fixamac <fixamac.net>. I'm not
yet using Tiger, but the versions for Panther and previous systems have
worked extremely well for me.

Sorry I have forgotten the original question.
If you want to RESET the printing system you can do this in Printer
Setup Utility left hand PSU menu but this is a bit drastic if you
have more than one printer.

Have you tried using Printer Setup Repair? It is shareware and works
great. You can use it in trial but pay for it because great apps like
this need to continue coming. Here is the link for it at version
tracker.

Re: How to reset printing under 10.4.5?
This may not be relevant but I solved a a seemingly intractable printer problem by unplugging the printer (a Samsung ML-1700 Laser not an inkjet). I had fiddled with the Printer Utility extensively. Powering the printer down was not enough. Apparently there is some cache that doesn’t get emptied even when one powers down with the switch on the printer. What I thought was a Printer Utility Problem turned out to be in the printer itself.

Re: How to reset printing under 10.4.5?
I have a Danon i560 and what I found works in almost the same situation is
to unplug the USB from the printer and reinsert it. By accident. Cannon is
of no help at all.

It took me some time to try it out. Last weekend
it was the time and I tried all options in
"Printer Setup Repair" like deleting caches,
printers; ressetting.
Nothing helps! I'm clueless about how to bring
the printer to work with his black only printing
head.
Here the original error message:

Any idea how to set a debug level or other things??
As I wrote before, the GIMP driver works (but the quality is not that good).
