Recovering music from the iTunes Music Store

[1idontcare]1idontcare - 12:35pm Mar 23, 2006 PST

I wanted to share some GOOD news about Apple and their iTunes store. I was stupid and, after buying only about 7 songs, I did not back them up anywhere. I thought that if I just "reauthorized" my iTunes program that they would just come back. WRONG! They basically told me that I was out of luck. I wrote back to them again and stated my case and promised that I would "back up" my iTunes purchases. They wrote back and told me that they "reset" my account and I got every single iTune that I had purchased and downloaded earlier. I quickly wrote Apple a nice thank you note AND immediately backed up these little nuggets of music that very, very few people would buy because my musical likes in terms of paying real money for them are super picky (Indy singer/songwriters). Now, I wonder if they would have done (or have done) the same for someone who has bought a few hundred tunes. Any stories out there on this?

[Yes, I've heard of Apple doing this in other cases too; they clearly don't want to make it an official policy, but given the ease with which downloaded files can be lost by people who aren't being sufficiently careful with backups, I'm not surprised that they do it. -Adam]

Anyse

Usually VERY dissatisfied with Apple's services.

Another potential problem is Apple may no longer have the files to make
available for redownloading. If a label pulled its tracks, or just some of
it's tracks, from the Music Store resetting your account may not make all
the tracks you previously purchased available.
