Is MagSafe really original?

I have not seen a MagSafe power cord up close yet but I am skeptical
of Apple's plan to patent it, this same concept has been on small
kitchen appliances for a couple years now. It is called SureRelease
and I have seen it on Rival and GE brand products.

Maybe Apple has some new twist on the concept but the SureRelease
cord is magnetic and breaks away to prevent it from pulling an
appliance off a surface by accident. Seems like the same basic idea.

Re: Is MagSafe really original?

SureRelease is used on some makes of deep-fry units, to release on pull
preventing upset of unit.
Dunno about patents, but it works for that purpose, as I happen to
know...and should work for purpose suggested by Geoff.
