PC Card Ethernet Support

I wonder if someone could help.

I rely on a PC Card (PCMCIA as was) Ethernet adapter in my 667 TiPB
to provide a second Ethernet connection (Built in ethernet for the
office LAN, PC Card Adapter for the internet). Up until 10.4 I used a
D-Link DFE 690 TXD and everything worked splendidly. When Tiger
arrived, my PC Card Ethernet connection left the building. D-Link
responded to my polite query with a "we do not plan to update our
drivers", and Apple have continued to not fix the broken
functionality in 10.4.1 and 10.4.2 (although I no longer get a kernel
panic when turning the card on or off).

So ... to the point of this monologue: Has anyone got first hand
knowledge of a PC Card Ethernet Adapter that works with Tiger?

Many thanks in advance

Chris. T.

Re: PC Card Ethernet Support

Dear All,

To clarify - I need a _wired_ card, as my office is a "no-wireless"
zone.

(I apologise for incomplete information in my question)

Sorry, no help with the ethernet card, but I did think it might be of
some use to report that I had a similar experience with a Lexar PC
card Compact Flash reader. Worked great under Panther, but quit when
I upgraded to Tiger. Lexar says it has no plans for releasing new
drivers, and in fact is replacing the unit with a FireWire reader.

I wonder if Apple is simply frustrating third-party vendors one time
too many with it's changing/breaking things with each new major
system update... I'd get pretty tired of having to go back to the
drawing board all the time myself, I must say.

Good luck,
John

Re: PC Card Ethernet Support

I guess that it may be bad form to answer your own posts, but I'll do
it anyway on the grounds that someone else might find this
information useful.

After weeks of searching, and multiple (failed) purchases and
installations, I have found a PCMCIA Ethernet Card that works with
Tiger (10.4.2 at least).

The MacSense Fast Ethernet Cardbus Card MPC-200 (I got mine from
WeLoveMacs.com) is ridiculously expensive considering it comes with
two floppy disks in the box, but that is excusable, as it works.

For me at least, in my TiPB 667.

Someone tipped me off to this card, but as I have been searching for
ages and posting requests in every place I could find, I can't
remember who pointed me to this card, but whoever you are, thank-you.

(Maybe this will be too off topic to get through, but I think it's worth
saying, so...)

This is absolutely *not* bad form. It is *good* form to answer your own
post, if you ask a question, and then manage to find the answer yourself.

It is incredibly annoying to search for answers to a problem, find a
message, and then no-followup. In at least some of these cases, a solution
was found - but no-one ever pointed out what is was.

So please (everyone!), if you have useful information to add, add it - even
if you started the thread.
