iChat AV in Tiger

I've seen some disturbing things with the new iChat AV client that came with
Tiger. I did an upgrade install on my PowerBook G4 (which went just fine),
and then attempted to set up a video chat with a Panther system that I chat
with all the time. No go - no matter who initiated the video chat, we would
get a message that one of us had refused the connection.

I really started to worry, though, when I then tried a Panther-to-Panther
chat with the same person, using my G5 desktop. Normally, everything works
just dandy, but we got a couple of connection failures, and then we got a
video-only connection (30 fps) - the audio channel was zero, and no sound
was transmitted either way.

I'm concerned that something "touched" the distant Panther system when I
tried to chat from my Tiger system - does anyone know if perhaps a new codec
is transmitted or something like that? I'd hate to think of some kind of
problem "oozing" through my entire circle of video buddies as we each
attempt to make connections!

I just tried making a connection from my G5 (Tiger) to my Powerbook G4
(still Panther). It worked, although since I'm the only one in the
house at the moment, I couldn't check the audio. I set up one of my
daughter's stuffed animals in front of the iSight on the Powerbook,
requested the connection, went upstairs and accepted the connection. It
all behaved as usual. Both are using Airport Extreme cards through an
Aiport Express. So (based on a single test) I don't think there's
anything endemic to Tiger that's messing up your connection.

Re: iChat AV in Tiger

iChat used to work just fine for me, then on my Cube (10.4) it stopped working. About a week later, it stopped working on my TiBook. I'm having no end of trouble with iChat and Tiger. I can only login to iChat if I turn off airport, start iChat, turn on airport and then login. And under no circumstances does it let me initiate or accept audio or video chat! If I initiate it just crashes. If I am invited, I never get the invite. Anyone know what's going on? I have re-installed Panther, no luck, I have re-installed Tiger on both machines, no luck.

Thomas
