Tiger Shipping and Educational Discount Problems
nick170 (apparently)
- 11:23am May 2, 2005 PSTvia email - http://www.inmff.netI was annoyed to get an email from Apple this morning letting me know
that my copy of Panther wouldn't be shipping until today, although I
ordered during the first week for preordering.
So I called and canceled -- they very nicely said they cannot cancel
it, but they'd provide me a return shipping label.
I went down to my local store, which was much less of a melee than I
expected and purchased a copy, upon which they flatly refused to
provide an educational discount that the online store does provide.
My question did anyone else who ordered online from Apple get their
shipped copy bumped? Also anyone know when Apple's Retail Stores
stopped offering educational discounts on their software?
[I saw a note on MacFixIt that some people who complained were being given free products as an apology. -Adam]

That's odd - my partner is a college student, and he's never had any
trouble getting educational pricing at an Apple Store. Resellers (as
opposed to Apple-owned stores) may be prohibited from offering
educational pricing, but that's not surprising.

This is standard procedure for at least the past year. Software discounts
are only available electronically (online) and not through a
brick-and-mortar store. Hardware discounts are available through the store.

Apple has never given a educational discount at their stores (at least,
not at the DC stores) since they opened. The only store you could get
the discount, was on the university campus (which isn't Apple owned or run).

Re: Tiger Shipping and Educational Discount Problems
I was among the chosen who ordered Tiger via the educational discount
program, and failed to get it delivered as promised last Friday. I sent
an email complaining to Apple about their failure to meet their
promised Friday delivery. I received an email today apologizing for the
delay, and offering me my choice of a copy of iLife or iWork as
compensation. Others in a similar situation might do well to send a
brief note complaining about the delay.

My son bought his iBook at the Tysons Corner store and got the
education price about 3 years ago.

There are only three kinds of stress . . . your basic nuclear
stress, cooking stress, and A$$hole stress. All of the three are
related . . . the key is Jello.

I too purchased an Powerbook from the Cambridge, MA store a while
back using my edu discount. On the other hand, they told me that
they couldn't extend edu pricing when I tried purchasing the iLife
suite sometime thereafter.
I think the rule has always been that they will extend the edu
pricing on hardware sales and any software purchased at the same
time, but not to software purchased alone.
