I use FM wireless in a slightly different way. I purchased a wireless
FM transmitter from CCrane.com and use it to transmit ALL of my
computer audio throughout the house. Naturally, I use it mostly for
iTunes music, although it's fun to have the email sound come through
over my music, announcing that a new mail message has arrived! So, on
the back porch or in the pool I listen to an iTunes playlist. If I come
into the living room I listen on my Bose WaveRadio to the same music
and, in the family room I listen still via the home stereo system
that's also connected to my TV. Back in the den where the computer is
located the computer speakers provide the same music. I don't miss a
beat with this system, and it's completely wireless. Oh, the garage has
a 70s vintage stereo system so I can also listen out there when working
on a project in the front of my house. No earbuds!

Lately, I've tried a strange but workable combo: hook the iPod Shuffle
to the FM transmitter. I had thought of putting this in a small,
bicycle-mounted satchel with an FM headphone set to listen to music
while riding the bike. The same setup could work fine with a fanny pack
while walking or running. As an amateur radio operator I do all of this
mainly because I can, and to see how well it works. Wireless is the way
to go!
By the way, when in the den my wireless FM transmitter runs on an
external power brick to save on batteries, and I've used alligator
clips and an external FM antenna to extend the range. At one point I
created a homebrew antenna mounted on the roof and was able to pick up
my FM station about 1/4 mile away down at the end of my street! This
little transmitter works quite well for under $70.
