PowerBook-using cats
Lyle D. Gunderson - 09:42am Apr 4, 2005 PSTGuest UserThis could be my PowerBook and cat you're writing about.

He's brought up websites I've never heard of, done all the things Nancy
describes, and makes extensive use of the Help key. One day, he sauntered
across my keyboard. This is not at all unusual, as any cat "owner" would
tell you. But this time, he stepped on the power key, long enough to
bring up the dialog box asking me if I really wanted to shut down the
PowerBook. Before I could do anything, he then stepped on the return key
(using a hind paw, just to show off), which of course told the PowerBook
that yes, I did want to shut it down. Then there wasn't a thing I could
do but watch it shut down.
On the plus side, his tail is great for keeping the screen dusted:

I had to fight with my cat for control of my iBook so often, I finally got
her a Color Classic of her own.

Re: PowerBook-using cats
I have trained my cat Pause to surf by herself on the internet, but she
respects my right to recharge the battery. She patiently waits her turn
as pictured below.

Re: PowerBook-using cats
When I had a B&W G3 with a power key on the keyboard, my cat used to
turn it on during the night.

Exhilaration is that feeling you get just after a great idea hits
you, and just before you realize what is wrong with it.

Re: Mac-using cats (was "PowerBook-using cats")
At 09:53 -0700 4/15/05, Mike Cohen opined: When I had a B&W G3 with a power key on the keyboard, my cat used to turn it on during the night. My (recently deceased) cat Puck used to turn on my Mac II so that he
could sleep on the warm monitor. I installed logging software and
discovered that this usually happened within 15 minutes of my leaving
for school in the morning. The black-and-white monitor eventually
overheated and went up in smoke, prompting the purchase of my first
color monitor. --

Re: PowerBook-using cats
My cats of course would always be hanging around my computer. The white one liked to sleep on top of the monitor, beccause it was warm. The black one preferred the mousepad, because then he was in the way. Not long after CDROMs appeared for the Mac, the black cat was draped all over the mouse pad as usual. He did that half wake, stretch mightily, back to sleep thing that cats do. Immediately after, the Mac froze, even though he hadn't touched the computer. So I blamed it on MS Word and started trying to figure out how to recover my document. After about a minute, with nobody having even moved, the Mac unfroze. What I eventually figured out was that when the goofball stretched, he shoved the CD into the drive. In the early days of the CDROM driver, it *totally* consumed the CPU trying to read the CD directory. So, although I actually didn't need the CD at the moment, it was helpful of him to load it for me.
