Re: Other credit card number theft stories

Interesting story! 2 years ago I began using a rechargeable credit card for my online purchases and automatic withdrawal instead of my normal credit cards, just in case any problem would arise... and after many years in January something similar to Adam's story happened. I've found a 35$ payment from eBay and I found it strange since I usually buy things there but never sold anything. I contacted eBay customer care (the web site is useless and really bad designed and the contact form as well) but after some mails they simoly said they can't help without a Fax of the paper monthly report. For these cards the reoprt is sent once a year and now I'm waiting for a special copy to send them, but anyway I found strange that a internet based company didn't want to use electronic copies. I've sent a pdf of the page with the payment details but they can't open attachments "for security reasons" (is the computer going to blow?) and anyway they need a fax.... The sum isn't big and I got another rechargeable card in few minutes, but it is anyway annoying to realize that someone has been able to use your credit card number and even more that the company involved (though is quite popuar and "respected") isn't able to help you understand what was paid and doesn't actually seem to care at all there was an abuse.

I'm starting to believe these things are becoming more common and thanks for the suggestions given in the article and in the list.

Ciao, Michael
