Multiple iTMS authorizations

[angus]angus - 04:01pm Feb 28, 2005 PST

I'm wondering about a slightly different problem. Has anyone tried to deal with the problem of combining two music collections that have songs from iTMS? I don't know of a way to authorize a computer for two apple ids at the same time.

Unfortunately, I have. When sending my powerbook in for some warranty
repair, I was instructed to de-authorize my iTunes. OK. When I
re-authorized after the machine was returned, I noticed that I had a
couple dozen songs that were not playable. Through some charge card
records, I determined I had two very similar iTunes ID and sign-ins.
Both with the same card, home address, etc. and both on the same
machine. I emailed iTunes support to inquire about combining and was
told that would not be possible. I then emailed and asked if I could
cancel one account, get credit for the songs purchased and the
re-purchase under the account that remained. I was told again this is
not possible.

Being honest and ethical does create opportunities for the gods to
chuckle.

My son has his own account on our iMac *and* his own iTMS account. I
can add songs he has purchased to my iTunes library and visa versa.
In general, songs from both iTMS accounts are playable by any of the
various User accounts on the machine.

Also, I have setup our iMac so that all accounts use the same
directory within the /Users/Shared directory structure (thanks to
Kirk McElhearn's tip in Take Control of Users & Accounts). That way,
there aren't multiple copies of the same songs taking up extra disk
space. However, each user (other than the one who purchased the
songs from iTMS or ripped the CD) must manually add the new songs to
their library.

Best,

Actually, a computer can be authorized for any number (I think) of Apple
IDs. Just try to play a song on the first computer from your second
collection, and let it prompt you through getting authorization. My wife
and I have separate IDs and authorize all of our computers for both
accounts.

iTunes, You Complete Me

Now with "Complete My Album" it's frustrating that you can't combine two accounts into one so that you get credit toward an album for all the songs you bought form that album from multiple accounts.

So if you want to combine two iTunes accounts to get credit toward complete my album, it won't work?
