It zips them, too. You can send photos while chatting. Spreadsheets
while budgeting or planning tax free activities.

[Though of course it's real-time, which is a completely different beast than YouSendIt, which doesn't require both parties to be connected at that moment. I'd also be curious if it falls down with very large files. -Adam]

Re: Transferring Large Files via Email

I use iChat/AIM for transferring large files.
Works fine. iChat is a good alternative when, as
Adam says... "it's too large for email, you don't
have access to an FTP server, or the recipient
isn't sufficiently savvy about usernames and
passwords or firewalls to log in to your server."

[I've often had trouble with iChat refusing to accept files or being too slow. Perhaps it's related to the AIM service. -Adam]

One thing that I would NEVER use for transfers of
large files is the personal storage space on the
dotMac server. Unbelievably slow.

What I have to wonder is... what's in it for YouSendIt the company? Why is
it free?

[Ad revenue. You won't see the ads if you have third-party cookies turned off in your browser, as I do. -Adam]
