Office 2008 updates won't install
cassco (apparently)
- 04:11am Aug 20, 2008 PSTvia emailAs usual, Microsoft Office 2008 updates ar FUBAR.
I am running a MacBook Pro (2.4 GHz with 4 GB of
RAM). I had done a normal install of Office 2008
(Mac) but when I tried to install the Office 08
upgrades (in order suggest by µsoft), I got a
message that said they couldn't be installed! I
tried a fix suggested in MacInTouch web page for
8/18/08 that suggested removing a line in the
installer program. That failed also. Apparently
hundreds of users are having the same trouble.
As usual, Microsoft remains mum on the subject.
Surprisingly, no Mac pros have been able to offer
a solution.
I have decided to uninstall Office 08 because 1)
no VBA, 2) opening is so slow that I have seen
snails move faster (isn't it supposed to be Intel
native?), and 3) Office 2004 works just fine for
my needs and has VBA.

This happens if you've made any changes to the software, such as
running Monolingual to remove languages. The latest update also borks
if you don't quit all Office programs first. If you do that, trying to
reinstall the update won't work, and you'll have to reinstall Office
entirely.

I've still got Office 2004 installed on this MacBookPro, use it
regularly because I have to, and nothing I've seen on any Mac list
gives any good reason to spend more money for another bloated,
overpriced, defective piece of MSFT junkware. If 2004 for some reason
stops working, I'll spend the time to better learn NeoOffice. I
managed to create a California pleading for my work in NO, and
essentially in my business everything starts from that point.

Entourage database.is more resistant to meltdown, and much more
resilient in rebuilding and recovery.
