Apple Stores Ready for 3G Onslaught

What, does *everyone* transfer cell numbers these days? Apple and
AT&T seem to be assuming one will obviously want to transfer.

The only reason I transferred my Verizon number to the iPhone a year
ago was that the Verizon number was so perfect. I don't give it out--
all calls to it are forwards. (Yes, texting gives out the number.
I've sent about 5 from the iPhone--test to boss, and some to a co-
worker when he was in a noisy location.)

I would say, certainly everyone under 35 or so, for whom their cell
phone is their only number.

No, not everyone, but it's very common for people to want to keep
their existing numbers now that it's (almost universally) possible to
do so.

I admit there's some feeling of relief at having a new home phone
number for the first time in 19 years, thanks to Time Warner Cable
being unable to wrestle my old number away from Verizon, but if I do
get an iPhone this year, I'll want to transfer my Verizon Wireless
cell number over. It's too valuable to me for all the people who have
the number to be able to keep using it to txt or call me; there are
VERY few people I'd rather DIDN'T have it. :-)
