I dragged it into the "~/Library/Preference Pane" folder.
No apparent result.

I just double click on the item, and it asks me if I want to install
it in my System Preferences, and then asks if it is just for me or for
the whole Mac.

I really wish Precipitate also let you search Gmail messages. Google Desktop does permit this, but I hate to have TWO systems indexing my hard drive all the time.

~/Library/PreferencPanes/
(no space, and a terminal s)
However, the easiest way to install a prefpane is just to double click
it.

You can set up a local email client like Mail.app to make that possible already, so it's not something I'll be adding to Precipitate.
