iTunes Store technical details

A recent posting to a public mailing list (for Nagios users) revealed
a couple of interesting tidbits, so where better to post them than
here :-)

1) The itms currently occupies just under 10 TiB of disk space (on an
11 TiB filesystem).

2) The filesystem is on a Netapps filer, and not an Xserve. Apple
mustn't like the taste of its own dogfood.

A friedn pointed out that with all the movies now, the whole ITMS is
probably rather large than that, which is a fair point.

Xserve's maximum capacity is 3TB. Beyond that, Apple recommends a
Promise device for extension. Let's see - I want to run a multi
billion dollar turnover business selling purely bits. Will I store
those bits on kit from Netapp or Promise? Difficult choice . . . .
