Car Bluetooth Hands Free Units dr (apparently) - 01:30pm Jun 24, 2008 PSTvia emailI'm thinking of getting a visor-based add-on Bluetooth speaker phone unit for my car. But I have no idea of which are good, bad, or just OK.
This is for those of us who will not be buying a car with Bluetooth built-in anytime soon.
Thanks
David

I bought a BlueAnt "Supertooth Light" from Amazon, receiving it
("SuperSaver" shipping) a few days ago.
So far, it has done what I asked, which has not included fielding a
call on the road at speed. (I placed a call to a co-worker whilst
sitting in the car in a parking lot. Supports voice dialing given a
phone which does; supports last number redial if the phone does.
Attaches to the visor using a seemingly firm clip. The device is held
to the clip by a pair of magnets. Claims "up to 800 standby time",
"up to 15 hours talk time".
Pairs with up to 5 devices, tossing out the least-recently used device
if you pair with a 6th.
Easy controls--the on off switch is also the microphone holder,
extending out perhaps 2 1/2 inches when on.
I was able to pair it with my MacBook and use it for a Skype call,
after pairing it with my iPhone, and it then remembered the iPhone.
Comes with a plug-in charger plus a car (cigar lighter) charger.

I have a BlueAnt, which I like and which I've successfully installed
for a number of clients. Simple, easy to use, good sound.

I have a Jabra SP500 that cost about $40. It works, but it's mediocre at
best, even in quieter environments than a car. The problem is the
microphone -- I can hear others quite well, but they have trouble
understanding me. So I'm also interested in something that works better.

Sent from my iPhone (so don't blame me for spelling mistakes)

Or for those of us who have expensive built-in Bluetooth systems the
iPhone won't work with.
