iPhone 3G - can it be used as a modem?

Can I use the iPhone as a modem for my laptop?

Preferably with HSPA (turbo 3G) data speeds now when Bluetooth EDR is
available.

The Magic 8 Ball says "All signs point to no." It's not possible* now
and from what I hear it won't be possible with the 2.0 software or the
iPhone3G.

*Well if you have a jailbroken iPhone you CAN get it working, just not
a simple touch of a button.

Pre-iPhone, my Treo 650 with Verizon served quite nicely as a slow 14K-
or-so modem for this MacBookPro with Verizon in California and
elsewhere. From everything I've read, there exists only business
reasons by AT&T/Apple for not having this feature. You more radical
thinkers might consider that just another example of "dark side
corporate greed." I am still generally content with my iPhone and
Apple, and I'll probably buy the iPhone2 in a few months -- maybe the
anniversary of the current one September 30th.
