[Office 2008 SP1] install causes setup assistant to loop

This situation is a result of when the Office Setup Assistant detects that
an invalid Product Key was used to install Office 2008. David Pelton,
Microsoft MacBU core lead test has outlined how to fix the problem and
requests users to contact him with info that will help chase down the issue
to keep it from happening in the future.

You will find details here:

Re: [Office 2008 SP1] install causes setup assistant to loop

Diane: I have found your instructions in a couple of locations... I have been on the Microsoft site. I have removed and reinstalled MS Office 2008 five times today... I have wasted most of today trying these different things over and over. To no avail...

I have finally installed MS 2008 and left it running without any updates. I needed my mail and Word. I am not sure where my disconnect is on this... I have been in IT for twenty years... mostly PC's and now on Macs for the past four months. Any additional help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Ronnie

If you have multiple copies of office, click on the Office Assistant on the
Dock, Select "Show in Finder." Go to the location in the Finder, quit the
Assistant, and then delete the plist in the Office folder where they found
the Assistant.

If you still have trouble, you can contact me off list. Just send a summary
of everything you have tried.
