My iPhone doesn't play in my car

My iPhone doesn't play in the Aux connection of my car but all of my
iPods do. Is there something different in the technology or
electronics between the 2? Or, maybe just a different connector?

The iPhone does require a slightly longer 1/8" connector. I keep a
Belkin adapter connected to my cassette-deck adapter in my car for
this very purpose. In the house, I just use the iPhone dock when I
want to connect it to anything. The dock has a line out with a
standard 1/8" connector.
