My "loaded" Mac Pro Intel Tower overheats

Hello

I have all the card slots filled and it was when I added that last fire
wire card that "The Movies" started losing the ability to redraw,
leaving vast swatches of metallic mud until lockup.

Using iMovie too, I get lock-ups when working too hard.

I have been told my cpu box is getting too hot. It feels feverish to me.

But a search on Google didn't find me a "Mac Pro Booster Fan FAQ and
message board.

Can anyone recommend a way to cool a box pumped up too much?

Hal

The app smcFanControl lets you boost your Mac Pro's fans to a higher speed than Mac OS X "thinks" you really need. If your box is overheating give it a try.

Two downsides. One is that if you run your fans faster than normal your Mac Pro sounds like... well, like a crappy loud Windows box. The other is that your fans will wear out much faster than normal. I've had my fans running at 1200-1600 rpm for the last year and if I listen carefully I think I hear my PCIe/HDD fan has a worn bearing.
