Time Capsule Ships with Support for USB Drive Backups
via email
Glenn, thanks for the article.
In particular, thanks for the confirmation (per the briefing) that
Time Capsule keeps its backups in the same format as does TimeMachine
working to some other drive. (I had read a claim somewhere--seemingly
incorrect-- that the storage was different.)
It seems to me that it should be possible to mount the disk on a
desktop and then use SuperDuper to copy the backup from an existing
TimeMachine volume, thus not having to start over with the loss of--in
my case--backups to late October. Repeat for my other machine. (The
old backups wouldn't really be lost until the drive was repurposed for
something else, of course.) Have you run any such experiments, Glenn?
A 1T TimeCapsule is very tempting to me, but there is no huge rush.
(No gain in networking, as the TimeCapsule would be my only "n"
device, and "g" is working fine everywhere I need it to work.) The
TimeCapsule would let me repurpose an existing drive for off-site
SuperDuper snapshots of three machines, instead of buying a new drive
for that.
