Problems with administrator access

[slunetta]slunetta - 08:53am Feb 25, 2008 PST

I recently tried two different operations that both gave me a message saying that I was not an Admin, needed to log in as one to do what I wanted. The first was trying to check for updates for my camera using Olympus Master. The second was trying to run AppleJack in single user mode.

I have booted from the Leopard install disk and reset my password and repaired home folder permissions. This is on a 2.2 GHz MacBook Pro, 4GB RAM, 10.2.5

Any ideas?

TIA,

Steve

(1) AppleJack doesn't work in single user mode under Leopard.

(2) Use the Accounts pref pane to see whether you are in fact an admin user.
There is a well-established Leopard bug where Leopard can un-admin your
admin user, so it is possible that this has happened to you.

Just to be absolutely certain, the account in question does have
the administrator box checked in the system preferences?

Does the same problem appear in any other administrator account?

I had a similar issue. A student had logged in as Admin and had locked
various apps and folders (just to screw things up). Check your permissions
to read/write on the functions in question.
