Slide show presentation software

[u.huth]u.huth - 05:51am Feb 14, 2008 PST

Hi all,

is there a slide show presentation software available, which is better than "FotoMagico" and "Apimac Slide Show". While FotoMagico has the "time line" feature it isn't possible to add video content to the presentation. With Apimac Slide Show you can add video, photo, and audio content, but it lacks the fine tuning by a timeline.

Is there a program available, which is the best of both?

Any answers will be appreciated.

Udo

You mean *besides* Keynote and Powerpoint?

Both of them let you work with mixed media (text, images, video).

If you need a timeline, why not consider iMovie for that matter?

Thanks everybody...

It seems iMovie is what I'm looking for. I was under the impression that it is only good for importing video clips from your video camera...

As I intend to present a "slide show" using a Beamer, I don't think that Keynote or Acrobat Professional fit the bill.

I'm afraid I still have a lot to detect regarding the programs Apple provides with Mac OS X...

Why that? Keynote is exactly meant to be used with a beamer. Do you
have specific needs that lead you to prefer iMovie?

Well, first I don't own keynote, I'd have to buy it.

Second I already did some experiments with iMovie and I think it works and
will give me results as I expect them.

Third, I do know PowerPoint and I don't like it, maybe therefore I'm biased
against Keynote ...

I've not used it, so I'm not sure it's appropriate for your needs,
but you might also want to check into Aquafadas's PulpMotion.

May I suggest that you try PulpMotion? It's based on visual themes and allows you to use photos AND videos. It was designed to tell stories very quickly from your digital medias. http://www.pulpmotion.com

Re: Slide show presentation software

You might try using Microsoft Expression Media. I hesitate to recommend any MS app., but this one used to be called iView Media Pro, and MS seems to have done little more than rebrand it since they bought the company six months or so back. With it you can drag images (or movies) of all sizes into a window, sort or change the order manually, then choose "make slideshow". The app fills the screen with each image, though (I think) movies appear unscaled. You can run the show on a timer, or change slides with a mouse click or by hitting the space bar. I use an Apple Remote with Remote Buddy to change slides on a laptop. This may be a bit off-topic, but I resorted to Expression Media after wrestling with Powerpoint and emerging bruised, bloody and defeated. Am I the only one who finds PP utterly out-of-step with modern software? Before using it I had expected that I would be able drag a folder of images onto PP and have it create a slide show with one image on each slide, scaled to fit. Dream on! The process of importing images -- an utterly basic function that presenters probably execute dozens of times for each presentation -- is amazingly cumbersome, and there isn't even a keyboard shortcut for it. ==========end rant
