iWork and iWeb Updated, Apple Restricts Release Notes
I suspect that the recent updates are to fix compatibility issues with
10.5.2, and Apple needs to get them out before releasing the OS update.

Re: iWork and iWeb Updated, Apple Restricts Release Notes
Well, as we know, nobody reads anymore. So if Apple did publish detailed
updates, they'd be read to us on video by a man in a black sweatshirt.
Which means we'd never be able to find them through Google, for example.
I really hate the fact that I can't get a text document telling me what the
recent iPhone update has. I just don't have time to sit through those
videos every time I want to check a detail.

Some of us do think in text, very effectively.
MOST of us do not. That is the basis of the A / V revolution; best
achieved in 5 - 8 minute videos, backed up by text.
Searching? I don't believe that people have thought about that,
beyond searching for titles, which will find nothing.

Re: iWork and iWeb Updated, Apple Restricts Release Notes
I ran the updates to iWork 08 on my 24" iMac running Leopard last night and
shut down as normal. When I tried to log on this morning, I was greeted by
the Setup Assistant wanting me to register my computer. After some
troubleshooting, I phoned Apple support and they had me reinstall Leopard.
The tech I spoke with said this is evidently not unique to me--other people
are having the same problem and they're working on it.
You might want to wait a few days to run the iWork update if you haven't
done so yet to give Apple a chance to fix this.

While not quite as dramatic a problem as the one you ran into, Brian,
here's another hiccup related to updating iWork: when I launch any of
the iWork apps on my machine, I'm notified of the respective *.0.2
update, but they don't show up in the Software Update tool.
All three apps are still at *.0.1 and there are no installation
receipts (in /Library/Receipts) for the *.0.2 apps, either. Still, the
updates are no-shows in Software Update. All other recent updates,
e.g. iTunes 7.6, iWeb 2.0.3, etc. worked just fine.
Do any of you have any ideas what may be causing this? Apart from tips
to download the stand-alone installers from Apple's Web site as a
workaround, that is. ;)
Regards,
Jochen.

Video with closed-captioning text is searchable via Google.

That’s “Chris” with a silent *and* invisible “3”.

Jochen,
I had the same problem. I checked the apple support page and found
out that Keynote and Numbers need to be in a folder called iWork '08
in the applications folder. Once I put them in there, software update
found them.
Bad Apple; straight to bed with no dinner for you.

Re: iWork and iWeb Updated, Apple Restricts Release Notes
release notes that say merely "This update addresses compatibility with Mac OS X" are just patronizing I'm not sure about patronising, Adam, but such notes sure as hell are utterly useless. I mean, what other operating systems are iApps compatible with? Like many other users, I'm also sick of stupid update notices from Apple, which seem to go from somewhat explanatory to drivel such as the aforementioned. Perhaps its time to start an online petition on this?

I'm in agreement. One serious flaw in Pages had to do with the Print
Dialogue Window when seeking to Print with "Show Comments" active. If
you clicked on any of the radio buttons in the Print Dialogue Window,
the Preview of the document actually shrank onscreen! And, to make
matters worse, it printed the exact size as what you saw. If you
clicked enough times, the preview would shrink until it was gone! For
someone like myself who spends hours and hours creating Keynote
presentations and accompanying handouts in Pages, I needed to be able
to print "my version" of my handouts with the comments. I showed the
Genius folks at our otherwise amazing Apple Store, and they were also
dumbfounded. I finally created a Flash movie using Jing that
documented the behavior, and posted it to my Web site and sent a link
to Apple. Never heard a word. So...when the recent upgrade to Pages
came out, that's the first thing I tried, and it's fixed. Check it out
for yourself on the previous version of Pages. Create a doc, add some
comments, select Show Comments from the View menu, then Print. When
the Print Dialogue comes up, mess with the various options and watch
what happens to the Preview of the document.

Because Mac is simple to use does not mean that we are all
simpletons, does it?

Thanks for the info, Malcolm. Re-creating that folder and moving the
three apps into it did, indeed, solve the problem.

Very true. This is _so_ un-Apple. ;)

Jochen.
