AVCHD support

In his tidbits article about Final Cut Express 4 on the 15th November, 2007, Jeff Carlson wrote that "AVCHD support is available only on Intel-based Macs." I suppose that means that my G5 will not have that feature enabled. Is that correct?

Is there any other app which would allow my G5 to accept and process such video files?

I just had a client who was looking into purchasing a HD camcorder
with the same sort of question. He still has not purchased a camcorder so
he might be able to get one with Firewire which seems to be supported in SD
and HD via a PowerMac and iMovieHD. For AVCHD files which seem to be what
every USB camcorder uses, a bit of searching turned up "VoltaicHD for Mac".
I have not tested it out in any way, but here is the info on it:

Yes, Voltaic works with G5 machines and can do the conversion of
AVCHD footage. That also lets you do the conversion on another
machine, for example, rather than wait for Final Cut Express 4 to
handle it.
