Folder actions
u.huth (apparently)
- 05:55am Jan 17, 2008 PSTvia emailHello all,
I tried to attach a folder action to my "Programs" folder of Mac OS 10.4.10.
It annoys me, that the folders are opened always with the icons unsorted. So
I tried to create a folder action, to sort the icons by name upon opening
the folder.
Apart from the fact that the automator workflow didn't work, the folder
action was gone after re-booting the computer. (I had attached it yesterday,
today it was gone.)
Does anybody know where to find an applescript which sorts a folder's icons
by name? How do I attach the folder action / the apple script permanently to
a folder?
Regards,
Udo

Udo,
Is there some reason you cannot just set the view options (cmd-J) for
the "Programs" folder to sort by name?
I have done this for my Applications folder, and it always keeps the
applications sorted by name.

Malcolm,
Thanks a lot!!
As I'm new to Mac OS X it didn't appear to me to look there. I adjusted the
icon size after a fresh installation of OS X to this Mac -- but never
touched the "View Options" after that again.
You're right, this is far more easy than trying to write a folder action
script...

Udo

Re: Folder actions
Hi. I have an early 2006 iMac (with MacOS 10.4.11) which has the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846 (firmware revise FB2U) optical drive. Although it happily accepts commercial music and movie DVDs, CDs and is configured to accept dual layer DVDs, it seems to have a problem with DL DVDs and one or two 4.7GB DVDs burned by a friend using Toast 8 and/or Disk Utility. On a rare occasion the iMac did accept one of the problem DL disks after repeated insertions, and I tried to copy it by way of Toast 7. The copy went fine, but the burning bombed out with the message reading:
Sense key - Hardware Error - Sense Code = 0x03
Drive reported error
Sense key = illegal request
Sense code -0X30, 0xo5.
Cannot write medium - incompatible medium.
The drive has also screwed several blank DVDs when I tried to load and burn data.
Does anyone know whether Matshita has ever issued a firmware upgrade. My google exploration showed up only firmware that allows one to over-ride commercial regional usage barriers.
Alternatively, if anyone has worked around a problem of this order, I'd appreciate guidance.
The Matshita is a tray configuration. I tried cleaning it with compressed air (canned) to no avail.
