Word 2004 Crashing Bug Squashed

[Fawcett, Graham]Graham Fawcett - 06:19am Dec 16, 2007 PST

I've downloaded the Updater, gone through the installation procedure, but
nothing seems to have changed. Not even the 'About Word' window shows me
that I have progressed from 11.3.8 to 11.3.9. I'm using OS 10.4.11 and, yes,
I had already installed the previous Updater, 11.3.8. What's up?

Since the actual Word application was not updated, I suspect the "About" window
will not show the differences.

What's being updated is the Microsoft Component Plugin, which you'll find
*is* 11.3.9. m.

Have your tossed the Microsoft User Data folder in your Documents
folder? Toss that and see if it it fixes it. Make sure Word and all
Microsoft files are quit.

Microsoft doesn't update each application with updates. The only true test
of an update is to check the Microsoft Component Plugin. It is always
updated.

See ³Confused over Microsoft Update Version numbers?³ There is a handy
script that will give you the version for each application that you can
download.

Re: Word 2004 Crashing Bug Squashed

I'm having trouble with Word 2004 and once in awhile Excel not being able to save files. I get a memory error, or just a can't save file error. Can you please further explain the fix of moving the MS User Data Folder? Do I have to tell my MS programs I've moved it somewhere?

Thanks much... DK
