Reading PDFs, Exls & Docs on iPhone
via email - Dave Clark
I sent PDF and Excel documents via Email to my .Mac account in order
to store them on my iPhone, and I've discovered that the document
type is just too small to read. There appears to be no way to get
the item to enlarge enough to make it out even with my 2.50 readers.
Email itself is OK if in text, but when a message comes in html, it's
also nearly impossible to read.
On one occasion a .Doc (Word) document expanded nearly 2x so it was
readable, but I've not been able to duplicate that little trick no
matter what I try. For example, when I tap the screen twice in rapid
succession (kinda' like a double-click), the screen jumps momentarily
to a slightly larger size, then instantly goes back to very small.
The inability to store/read PDFs, Excel, and MS .Doc files is a major
defect in design, IMO. For years, I used Documents to Go on my Treo
and at least for reading it worked just fine. DTG even claims to be
able to write to these formats except pdf.
The iPhone will never be a true business tool unless it gains this
function and can offer the user a way to read such common document
formats.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a work-around or perhaps I'm
doing something wrong.
