I am wondering if "Time Machine" will only work with the Mac startup
disk only or with ALL drives and volumes connected to the Mac.

Any answer there?

Re: Time Machine

I'm curious as to how Time Machine differs from the WinXP 'restore'
function (I'm a bit fuzzy on this, having abandoned it long ago on
XP, but IIRC, it was a way of taking your machine back to a
predetermined saved point).

The thing that concerns me is that I abandoned it after several days
wrestling with Virus files on a friend's computer, which I eventually
realised had set the computer to restore to a point just after they
had installed themselves - so they simply reappeared automatically
after a restart. I realise that there are few Mac viruses (yet), but
could this not be a potential security hole?

Re: Time Machine

My partial congratulations to the UI coders who did Time Machine.
(Some people don't like the design--this isn't about that.)

They have the forward in time arrow floating below the times shown by
mousing over the bars indicating the backup times. That's good, but--
they have the back in time arrows floating *above* the times--making
the times for several fairly recent backups harder to read than
necessary.
