Apple Expo Paris 2007 Impressions
Guest User
As someone who has attended the Paris Apple Expo for years, I would
agree with Mr. Kissell that it was a bit underwhelming this year. Part
of the problem was the gaping hole in what was planned to be announced:
the iPhone/Orange deal. We all have read that last minute financial
issues had arisen in the negotiations, leading to Orange France having
cancelled it's booth at the Expo at the last minute, and no iPhones in
the Apple area. And The Steve seems to be irked with France in general
(I mean, 8 Apple Stores in the UK, one in Rome...and none whatsoever in
Paris or France, traditionally an Apple supporter with a large user
base?).
But having attended the Paris Apple Expo often, I must mention that
previous versions have not only had Steve Job keynotes (and important
new product announcements), but also larger exposition areas, including
Apple's which seemed particularly skimpy this year, as well as scheduled
professional conferences and workshops in an adjacent area. So if this
was your first Expo, Joe, it wasn't a typical one, judging from the last
five years or so. Hopefully it will be back up to specs next year.
Just to set the record straight: As a woman, I didn't feel as if I had
accidentally intruded into an all-male club or something. Yes, there are
always more males than females at techie trade shows, but I didn't feel
the mix was much different than when I attended the San
Francisco/Moscone show several years ago. I felt perfectly at home,
talking Mac to others also interested in my favorite platform.
cheers,
ncm (in Paris)
