Radioshift TiVos Internet Radio

Be extremely careful with this program!
I downloaded the trial and at first was quite pleased with it. Both
the layout and the quality of sound available was satisfactory. I
recommended it to some friends quickly (and as it turned out,
foolishly...)

Next day when I started up my eMac I discovered that the element of
Radioshift inserted into my account had hosed all my login items!
After laboriously rebuilding my setup (thank you super duper!) I
accidentally opened Radioshift again and, guess what? That #%$%
Radioshift Helper did it again! All gone...Thank God that I had an up-
to-date backup!

Your thoughts? Am I doing something wrong?

[I don't think you're doing anything wrong, but I can say that I've installed Radioshift on two Macs with no trouble, and in discussions with Rogue Amoeba, I've not heard anything significant along these lines. As a result, I suspect that whatever is going on is limited to your system, or to at least a very specific situation. -Adam]

Can you add different login items without "hosing" the list? For
instance, set your email program to Open at login and see what
happens. If the login items list gets hosed, you know it's not
Radioshift's fault. If the list is fine, it might still not be
Radioshift's fault.

BTW, if you haven't found this already, your login items list is kept
in ~/Library/Preferences/loginwindow.plist. You can use TextWrangler
to open the copy of the file from your backup and the one apparently
hosed by RadioShift then use Find Differences to see exactly what's
different about them. There should only be one change, the addition
of a block within <dict> tags describing the addition of RadioShift
Helper. If there are changes elsewhere in the file that could be the
cause of the problem. It may be possible for invalid structure within
the RadioShift Helper dict tags to also cause the problem but I think
that's less likely.

Re: Radioshift TiVos Internet Radio

Would be interested in a point-by-point comparison of Radioshift and RadioLover.

RadioLover's interface does need tweaking before it's as easy to use as a TiVo or even a VCR, but it nevertheless has worked pretty well for us in recording the wonderful WMUC-FM (University of Maryland College Park radio) program "Tom & Benj in the Morning" (where Benj just HAPPENS to have the same last name as this writer), and it only costs $15.

Radioshift Helper seems to cohabit quite happily with my other login items in my Account . It hasn't hosed anything here, so I suspect there is something else going on with your particular setup.

I used RadioLover only briefly quite some time ago, but as I remember
(and a glance at their Web site would seem to confirm), its main
claim to fame over Radioshift is that RadioLover can split recordings
into individual songs. With Radioshift you'd have to send the file to
Fission or another audio editor to do that.

On the other side of the equation, RadioLover doesn't appear to have
access to the RadioTime database, so everything would have to be
scheduled manually.

cheers... -Adam
