Making iMovie '08 play with iPhoto

I love the thought of using iMovie 08 to manage my digicam movies that have been imported along with all photos into iPhoto. But there must be something I don't understand in this puzzle.

In iMovie '08 I can see the iPhoto Videos in the Event Library, but I would expect all iPhoto events that contain movies to appear underneath. They don't, instead all iPhoto movies appear at once in the clip listing to the right of the Event Library. The movies are grouped by iPhoto Events in the listing, but those events can't be selected, collapsed or otherwise manipulated.

If I scroll down to the right iPhoto Event (most recent shots are at the bottom so it's a long scroll...) I can select individual clips, but how do I select all clips for an event so I can add them at once to the project?

I'm looking for a simple way to view all movies that belong to an iPhoto Event (and join them first if needed, and if so a simple way to select them all and add them to the project). I can view clips in sequence simply by placing the red playhead and press spacebar, but full screen viewing always seem to begin at he first clip for the first event.

What am I missing? Why doesn't iPhoto Events appear under the iPhoto Video icon so they can be easily selected?

I posted this before the 7.1 update, which apparently allows the selection of multiple clips at once. This is a step in the right direction, but I still miss to have the iPhoto Events in the left list ad to be able to play selected events full screen without adding them to the project.

One way to do this that I just discovered is to bookmark the clips I want to view, select "Show only bookmarked clips" and then play full screen.
