Redirecting Apple Mail
joefolio (apparently)
- 02:06am Sep 12, 2007 PSTvia emailI would like to redirect a copy of all mail, addressed to me, from my
Apple Mail Inbox to my account at Yahoo Mail. (while also retaining a
copy in my Apple Mail Inbox)
I've set up a rule in Apple Mail to redirect a copy of all mail but,
apparently, that mail is forwarded rather than redirected. This
means that all such mail when it appears in Yahoo Mail indicates me
as the sender rather than the original sender
Is this an error in Apple Mail program or am I missing something? Is
there a work around?

When possible, I prefer to use server-side mail filters for this sort
of thing so they happen as soon as the message arrives and doesn't
depend on a particular mail client on a particular machine. Of course
it depends on what mail filtering capabilities your server has, if any.

Are you sure you chose the correct action in your Apple Mail rules?
Forward Message and Redirect Message are two separate options.

I don't think it's a problem with Apple Mail, I just tried it
(version 2.752.3), both manually Redirecting and by using a rule to
send a message to Yahoo Mail and the correct name and address was on
the From line. I had to turn on Full Headers to see my address (the
one I used to redirect) at all. My address appeared on the lines
Return-Path and Resent-From (Resent-From appears to have been added
by Apple Mail).
Could your SMTP server be re-writing your headers, forcing everything
you send to be From: your address? You could test that by going into
Preferences | Accounts and adding a second email address after a
comma, make it the same but add a 1 to your name.
