Curing Your LaunchBar Addiction

A very handy function overlooked here is that not only text snippets
can be passed in to applications directly, but so can files.

Three quick samples:

I use PathFinder day-to-day, mailing files around is made infinitely
easier by selecting multiple files in a Pathfinder window, then CMD-
space, then indicate Mail as the target via your abbreviation, a new
mail message is opened with your files as attachments.

A similar use is a completely keyboard driven way to open PDFs in an
alternative reader (some lend themselves to Skim's annotation
abilities), select the file, CMD-space, then set your alternative
target and hit return.

Filing documents within EagleFiler is quick and easy, select the
file, CMD-space and selet EagleFiler, the file is imported ...

Ps. Now if only LB could grab the contents of PF's shelf ...

Another great feature of Launch Bar is its ability to create iTunes playlists on the fly. Think of an artist or album or genre or a song; LB has several ways to select music that relates to your selection. Select one of the options that comes up with your entry, press return and LB creates a (temporary) play list and starts the music.

Like the reviewier, I don't use all the features of Launch Bar. Everything I do use is extremely helpful and saves time and memorization. This is the most intuitive and graceful software I've ever used.

This, for me, is the defining feature of LaunchBar. Compared to similar utilities (Quicksilver, Butler) it has a level of polish, reliability, and intuitiveness that makes it stand out from the others. While it lacks the extensive feature set of Quicksilver, it handles the most common tasks (opening files/folders, looking up addresses, etc.) with fewer keystrokes and more consistency.

If you're a Quicksilver or Butler addict, I highly recommend checking out the free trial of LaunchBar and giving it a good road test.

I appreciate your LaunchBar tips - this one especially because it explains
why I had a LaunchBar entry in iTunes one day....it was one of those "what
the heck" moments.

Until now, when I tested the tip and selected Bob Marley I didn't know what
I had done to see LaunchBar as a playlist in iTunes. I usually have the
external the speakers off then.....answers come in the strangest ways with
this tidbits subscription!

LaunchBar facilitates a stream of consciousness music experience. Nice.
