Actual iPhone sales and activations

Everybody is saying that. But...the iPhone went on sale at 3:00PM
PDT (in the Eastern time zone) and the quarter ended at midnight PDT,
which looks more like 33 hours to me. (Either way, the number is
satisfying to me.)
Similarly, AT&T's global headquarters is in San Antonio, TX--so
midnight (following Saturday) CDT should be the activation cutoff for
the quarterly report (maximum 31 hours of activations--which don't
happen until some time after the sale, and were likely only a trickle
for the first couple of hours since only some activated on their
laptops over wireless rather than going home).
I don't think we know whether Apple counted boxes over the counter in
their sales and shipments to AT&T, or boxes over the counter in both
sets of stores, or some other combination.
Add in people who didn't begin to activate until some convenient time
a day or two into the new quarter and those with activation problems
(AT&T shouldn't have counted my activation until Tuesday when Verizon
released my number to them, and the ratio of activations to sales
seems roughly right to me.
The analysts (and blogger-analysts) display their acumen once again.
(Or is that "albumen"?)
