Sites with info for new Mac users

[chjabu]chjabu - 07:35pm Jul 20, 2007 PST

My First Mac is a very nice looking site with tons of good information and resources. I run a similar site for the slightly more advanced user:

<http://basics4mac.com>

Basics4Mac offers concise Mac how-to tips, a questions and answers forum and access to Live Help by telephone

Subject: Info for Mac newbies

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the recent article about Chris Kerins' excellent MyFirstMac
site. I provide tech support primarily to consumers, and I can tell you
that such resources are sorely needed.

I've added Chris's link to a site I maintain, called Triona's Tech Tips.
Based on my daily experience in the field, it's geared for beginners to
both Mac and PC, and covers the basics as well as the sort of vital
security information that even Macs require in this age of Internet threats.

Again, thanks for all the timely information you've passed along over
the years. I can still remember when the Mac SE was the "hot new
machine"; it's exciting to see how far Macintosh has come!

Sincerely,

Triona Guidry

I also have podcasts on Tiger if anyone is interested. A few of the
very first ones need to be shortened and broken down. However, TIME
to do this seems to be my main issue right now. There is enough
information, though, for everyone.

The main site is on my .mac at: http://web.mac.com/nancyspoolman

They might be more clearly categorized here:

I'd also like to suggest my MacTips archive (and free mailing list).

http://mactips.info/tips

Just today I've added Tip number 300, representing 6 years' worth of
Tips covering the things most Mac users want to do with their
machines: email, photos, music, chat, connect an iPod, and so on. The
focus is on the software included with a Mac.

The Tips target an audience who are either newbies or regular Mac
users with lives :-) rather than the geek crowd. Tips tend to be
about 400 words. The mailing list emails are plain text, but I often
add screenshots to the online archive, making it easy for readers to
choose what they want to see.

The online archive also provides a full-text RSS feed.

For those wanting a bit more in-depth information I also have an
archive of articles, many of which have been published elsewhere,
including the New Zealand Macguide magazine:

Miraz Jordan's MacTips site/newsletter would also be worth a look.
Congrats to Mirz for keeping MacTips going for six years and 300
issues!
