RSS pros and cons
via email - Fredrik Jonsson
I'm surprised not more of TidBITS audience use RSS. I also miss a big
part of my own use of RSS in Adams description.
* RSS has replaced many newsletters and all kind of e-mail alerts for
me. No hassel with subscribe/unsubscribe, SPAM-filters etc.
* RSS makes it convenient to follow blogs that are interesting but
that add new content infrequently. With RSS it doesn't matter if it
goes month between postings.
My RSS reader do for me what the morning news papper does for my
parents. With the added benefit that the selcetion is my own and it's
easy to read more when I find something interesting.
I set most of the RSS feeds to update every 6 or 24 hour. I get a big
morning edition and a smaller afternoon one.
If you set the reader to update to often you end up reading stuff
that is really not that interesting. I do the same with e-mail, check
only a few times per day.

Fredrik Jonsson
