Adding Ethernet to a Power Mac

I'm curious about adding gigabit Ethernet to my Sawtooth g4 450. I've
tried a couple of cheap white box cards found a a local dealer that
claimed that they were Mac OS X compatible. Unfortunately, they didn't
work. The Mac didn't even recognize that they were there. I'm running
Panther Server on the machine and wondering that might be part of the
problem. I wanted gigabit in this machine because it is my small
office server, but I'm having no luck finding help online. Any
thoughts?

While I detest pithy "do a search" posts on online forums, I'll point
out an excellent resource offered by Apple:
        http://quide.apple.com/

...in particular, the Servers & Networking subsection:
        http://guide.apple.com/uscategories/servers.lasso

Click "Ethernet connectivity" and enter "gigabit" in the keyword
field. Results include offerings from well-known Mac vendors such as
Asante and Sonnet Technologies, as well as a couple I'm not familiar
with.

I put a Presto Gigabit by Sonnet in a Sawtooth and had no problems at all
with Panther (not the server version though).

Re: Adding Ethernet to a Power Mac

Just wanted to say thanks for the article on "Adding Ethernet to a Power Mac". I bought an Intel Pro 100 S from a local store. It works great on my Power Mac G4 Dual 450 and I didn't need to install any driver.
