iPhone: why wait?

Up until last week, I had convinced myself to wait for an iPhone.

Starting with Pogue's review, and extending through the weekend, I
started to change my mind.

1) There don't seem to be major hardware issue. Maybe not even minor issue.

2) The software works. While there might be a few minor missing
features, the software included actually works.

3) The data speeds in NYC don't seem too bad.

4) The cost of switching from my current phone to an iPhone (the
cancellation fee) is equal to the number of months left multiplied by
$40, the market rate for data plans elsewhere. That strikes me as
less than the value of the added functionality that I would get from
an iPhone.

So, should I switch now? Or should I wait?

Why wait? What might I gain for waiting, from trying suppress my
desire for the iPhone.

(What might added in the next 3, 6, 9 or 12 month, in terms of
hardware? What else might I gain for waiting, other than those
hardware improvements? Should I even expect hardware improvements in
that time frame?)

Re: iPhone: why wait?

Well one reason to wait is that it is rumored that in the Dec/Jan time-frame the cellular data plan will switch from Edge to G3. This makes sense as this is when phones will be released in Europe and they are already using the G3 network there. This should improve data rates to what most of us are used to from low end broadband accounts.
