Reloading Apple data

[Pepper, Chris]Chris Pepper (apparently) - 03:38am Jul 4, 2007 PST

All,

After my latest .Mac sync debacle, I have decided to stop
paying for .Mac and switch to rsync for distributing my data from my
main Mac (which syncs with my Treo, someday to an iPhone) out to my
other Macs. This should avoid the .Mac data reconciliation issues
that vex me, and save the money I've been paying Apple for their
buggy online service. Additionally, I will be able to tighten
security and reduce trust a bit. The downside is that I will no
longer be able to make changes on my work desktop -- I'll have to
make updates on my Treo (iPhone) or home system.

My question is: How does .Mac sync / iSync notify Apple's
apps (Address Book, iCal, & Safari, as well as Keychain & Mail.app)
that their underlying data has changed? Is there an AppleScript
command I can send to make them refresh from newer data on disk, or
is there a different way?

                                                Thanks,

                                                Chris
