AirPort connection troubles

[merlank]merlank - 10:27pm Jun 11, 2007 PST

My iMac 2 GHz Intel Core Duo 1,5 SDRAM Mac Os 10.4.9 with Airport Xpress Internet Connection app is being troublesome. Thrice now, I have suddenly lost my internet connection. The status bar Interconnect icon shows the fan shape with the half moon stripes dimmed. My Mail switches to off-line. My router is fine, my Airport light is steady green. But suddenly, no signal.

My G4 466 in an adjoining building connected to the router via a LAN has no problem receiving a signal. The only way I have been able to re-connect is to reboot. I'm back on line with the menu bar showing four solid stripes in the fan icon. If this is an iMac/Interconnect issue, can anyone throw a light on the cause?

Any advice will be welcome.

Which Airport Express are you using?? I was using the older one, There is a new one out now smaller more compact and made for both PC's and Mac. I exchanged my old one for the new one and havent had the connectivity problems any longer. I am running OSx10.4 on a Mac Book G4 and I have a Mac Mini I use for the main computer router running WIndows and OSX. I think what the problem is that with the dual processors the IP address is changing and causing the problem. At least that is what my ISP provider said. Once I got the new airport made for PC's and Mac my connectivity problems have gone away.

Your ISP is full of it. Dual processors don't make your IP
change at all, although if you use Parallels or VMware, the virtual
machine might have a different IP than the Mac OS X side. Neither of
these would affect AirPort signal, although you will get better
performance with an AirPort Base Station that supports the best
AirPort level as your Mac. If you have an Intel mini you may have
802.11n, and only the new AirPort Extreme Base Station does 802.11n.
You should also make sure your Mac and base station have current
firmware.

See Glenn's book for more about AirPorts and Apple's manuals:
