Good deal on AppleCare Bruce Sherman - 11:10am May 20, 2007 PSTGuest UserMy Mac Book Pro will be a year old in the fall, so I'm thinking about
Applecare. Retail is $350. Ouch! I see it on Amazon for just under $300.
Anyone else find deals on this item?
Thanks

I've purchased several AppleCare policies from L A Computer Company and have
been very satisfied. They claim to be an Apple Authorized Service Provider
and dealer, and you get the official AppleCare box with enrollment number:
Their price for AppleCare for your MacBook Pro is $259.

I've purchased AppleCare packages for two different systems on eBay for
significantly less than list price and both activated properly. A quick
glance showed that MacBook Pro packages are going for around $200.
If you want to go that route, ensure that you buy from a long-time
seller with good feedback, and pay using a credit card so you can
dispute if anything goes wrong.
I've also used eBay for purchasing dotMac renewals at good savings, but
the same caveats apply.
Regards,
Jim

Re: Good Deal on Applecare
One Apple store in Vancouver, BC, sells AppleCare at full price, with a
cash back policy in case of not having used it. Not a bad deal. Makes
us look for reputable models and look after them.

Good deal on AppleCare

They have it for $269, plus shipping.
I believe LA Computer Co. often has good deals as well, but they tend to charge more for shipping.
Good luck! John

Re: Good deal on AppleCare
JUST LIKE ANYTHING.... BUYER BEWARE....
I have a Powerbook G4... bought it and 2 weeks later MacBook Pro announced ... I went Apple Care, Pro Care .. the works on the extras....
About 6 months later a white spot appeared on the LCD screen at the very bottom of the screen... Nothing big.. Hardly noticible. Took it to the local Apple Store with my Pro Care Priority Genuis Bar Appointment to only learn that the Screen of all things is not covered after 90 days for any reason. The Apple Store wanted to send it back to Apple, but also wanted me to sign a wavier and an agreement that if Apple did not fix it. I could be held responsible for a $3,000 repair bill.
I hit the ceiling called Apple direct and thats when the news the screen is not covered on that supposely EVERYTHING COVERED APPLE CARE., Dont get me wrong I love my MAC. but I was very disappointed in the least to find out APPLE is just like all the others... LURE YOU IN for the BELLS AnD WHIsTLES then through the fine fine fine print on you.
I still have that white spot on the screen and a major sour spot when it comes to Apple Care.

Tampa Florida.

Looking at Apple's Warranty
< http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/hardware.html> I see nothing
that says screens/displays are not covered. Also, AppleCare T&Cs
< http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/APPTermsConditions.pdf>
don't state anything like this.
In fact, your powerbook MAY be eligible for a Repair Extension
Program. See < http://www.apple.com/support/powerbook/displayprogram/>

While some fool may have told Donald this, it is just not true.
I have gotten many screens replaced under AppleCare. In fact, I got
an PowerBook G4's screeen replaced more six months after the MBP was
released (Donald's time frame) in the last month of coverage for that
machine. This was a machine that had already had its screen replaced
years earlier for white spots.
Just call Apple. 1 800 275 2273. (Unfortunately, that's from memory,
because of some tragic deals with a black MacBook last summer.)

Re: Good deal on AppleCare
how is it that LA Computer Company (per DealMac) is able to offer AppleCare for MacBook Pro for $169, plus shipping? Is this fully recognized by Apple?

The product in the link is only for the MacBook/iBook, not MacBook
Pro. MacBook Pro AppleCare is at
http://www.lacomputercompany.com/cgi-bin/rpcart/index.cgi?command=dispitem&type=sku&sku=10126
which is currently $239. Still a great deal.
I've bought a Mac Mini from them before. No problems.
