Flash player install problems hecmac265 (apparently) - 08:58am May 2, 2007 PSTvia emailI am having problem installing the latest update to Flash in my iMac (system 10.4.9). The installation runs all the way to the last item and then gives me a screen saying: " Error creating file. 1008:5, 5000 Access denied error" and then when I click the OK button it gives me a final warning: " You do not have enough access privileges for this installation". Can anyone give me a helping hand?
Thanks

Re: Flash player install problems
Good point,
I have given up trying to get Flash or Windows Media Player to work on
my iMac G5 10.3 and Mac mini Intel 10.4 and I will not buy RealPlayer.
Quick time is not useful either and I feel that my QuickTime pro
upgrade was a waste of money.
Perhaps Apple should build the playback capabilities for all video
players into OS X. QuickTime obviously is not the dominant player
despite Apple's claim last year about how Quickly QuickTime is being
adopted. I don't see that changing quickly, if at all.

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/otherproducts/otherproducts.aspx?pid=windowsmediaThe player is also available from Flip4Mac directly and they have various different tiers of pricing for additional features. The basic player though is free. It's not immediately obvious but they only have one download product that you can then use to activate the other features. They call it a demo but it's really the player with, I think, time limited use of the other features. I purchased the Studio package a while ago so I can't test it out.

Re: Flash player install problems
Thanks Michael,
I downloaded and installed it on the Mac mini and it seems to work very
well. I'll see how it works after a few weeks and then I can upgrade.

Re: Flash player install problems
Up until the most recent update of Flash. I had the same problem. The work around is to log in as Root. This gets around the Access Denied error.

Re: Flash player install problems
Logging in as root to circumvent an access denied error doesn't resolve the underlying problem that permissions are fouled up. I've never enabled the root user account since installing OS X over four years ago and, IMHO, advocating such is dangerous advice.

Re: Flash player install problems
I am also having major flash installation issues. However, I don't get any warning message at all. It seemingly installs fine on my iBook G4, but when it directs me to the flash test page, it says I'm still missing plugins. Has anyone experienced this? Is there a solution? I've combed the Adobe help page, but gotten nowhere.
